TRY NEW THINGS BE VERSATILE. BE YOU!

We all know there are so many different avenues to rollerskating. We all have those days when we get frustrated and intimidated by trying something new! Whether it is a new trick at the rink, skatepark, or you walk into a new space full of skaters and feel intimidated, I completely understand. When I first went to the skate park as a jam skater I fell in love, but it also took time to get adjusted to the environment of all these different wheels and people doing tricks on them. I knew it was going to take work to get good at this. I want everyone to know that when trying new things, TAKE YOUR TIME and let it come naturally. Don't try to keep up with the status quo learn your flow! Also, set personal goals weekly if you are looking to progress a little faster. If you don't get it that week no biggie try again! I have had so many personal lessons in skating that translated into my life at the moment because it was divine timing. That let me know that real skill takes time and consistency. Find out what works for you. Yesterday I met up with this amazing skater from Chicago. Her name was Jessika. She is an amazing skater. By the way, go follow her @jessikatastrophie. She said the best thing, "I skate for me, nobody else" and that is the truth. I also go to the rink, and a lot of people prefer not to be recorded because it is about the feeling that they skate for themselves. I feel like recently, with this rollerskating boom, new skaters are kind of obsessed with recording ourselves all the time for validation of our progress, but true progress makes you happy, whether you are with friends hyping you up or alone, knowing you did it! I record my progress, but lately, I have just been making skate videos for fun! It's been something new I'm trying out, and I don't feel any pressure or seek any validation because I know who I am. I also want to speak about new spaces and entering them, especially the rink. I have heard from so many skaters that they are intimidated when they go to the rink or the skatepark because all the other skaters are so good. I want you to look at it from a different perspective, think more I can be as good as that person, and add my own flair to it because that is exactly what you will do if you work hard and put in the time and effort. Also, try the skate park at least once if you are a jam skater. See if you like it. You never know. The message this week is to never feel pressured to be at a certain level to try new things! Try it and see if you didn't like the experience! At least you can say you tried. Kill all the fear! It's not only the physical fear but the mental fear that keeps you from trying new things that I want you to overcome!
Thank you very much for reading, KAF:)
