MUSIC AND SKATING

Music and skating go hand and hand. Back in the 1930’s people would roller skate to the violin or a live band while they did partner skating or solo dance. The disco era which was the ”golden age of rollerskating in the 1970s till the 1980s was the reason music was so popular during those times. Adults would go to the roller rink and skate the night away to the disco jams. Me being Afro Latina it’s also amazing to hear the music my mom and fellow people of color have been listening to and making over time. Since I’m from Miami we have been listening to the same Miami music shuffle skating music in super-wheels formally known as hot wheels since my mom was young and skating. I don’t know if this is a good thing or a bad thing but sometimes I get tired of the lack of diversity in music there not even disco or R&B, but back to the subject. When I hear music and roller skate it helps me stick the things I’m working on and express myself. I am truly in love with music as a singer myself and I always find a new way to express myself while listening to music and rollerskating was that for me. I can’t believe in one day I’m getting on a plane with 30 of my closest skate peeps and we are dancing and skating the nights away in the skating capital of the world. Music is what fuels my soul and gets me through a hard times. That paired with skating is like a mental high without the drugs without the alcohol. Just my personality and a song. Here are some cool pics of all the people that have jam-skated over the years and today.
