INJURIES , MENTAL HEALTH , HOW I GOT TROUGH IT

So as we all know I recently fractured my fibula and dislocated my ankle to the point where I had to have surgery on it. I am now gonna use my platform to talk about this topic because a lot of skaters don't talk about how they get injured but it is a part of the journey in skating. Whether it is a gigantic bruise due to a Gnarly fall or a simple sprain from an enthusiastic kid at the roller rink that clipped you. In my case, it was pretty serious and I had to seek out serious medical assistance. Even though I am fortunate to be insured, I know people who are not, and it was still an inconvenience for me financially. Seeing an orthopedic doctor was difficult. Just to get the verdict of surgery, I had to visit three different doctors. In addition, you have to pay each doctor separately. While I had a copay, a lot of people who don't have insurance will have to pay out of pocket just to be seen. So I would suggest that if you want to start skating as a hobby, you understand that it does have some risks associated with it and be prepared to face those consequences or make sure you are insured so that you do not put too much burden on yourself financially. I adore rollerskating and it was an integral part of my daily activities and workout routine, so it made me feel sad when it was taken away from me. I am grateful to have such a great community to make me feel better when I was feeling sad about not being able to do something you love. As much as I could, I attended skate events to feel connected to skating in some way. In addition, I still needed to eat and do work from home after surgery, so I had to learn how to move around on my own pretty fast. Thank god for my friends and boyfriend, who helped me the best they could. It's crucial to have a support system around you during an injury. If you don't seek out local community resources for assistance. Casting was the worst part of the injury. With my knee scooter, I was also able to go out for a longer period since I would not tire on it. It is a game-changer if you suffer an injury to your lower body. Shoutout to Kaz who gave me her knee scooter because I do not know how I would have functioned without it using crutches everywhere was so tiring. Recovery was hard but learning how to walk was so important to me I wasn't gonna let myself be scared and just have to fight through the emotional and physical pain. All I was focused on was getting better I set my mind to it not skating friends not family just getting better for myself to become independent was my main focus because I wanted to be skating. If you focus on one goal no matter how long it takes you will get there and I did. Once I started to wear shoes again I was so happy and really got over the fear of skating because I was walking and if anything I was mentally picturing myself as stronger rather than weaker. I looked at this whole experience as it happening for a reason and it has truly changed my life in a good way. If you are ever injured just focus on the positives and what you could be working on in that time frame. I have completely built my plan for KAFSKATES and it is now in full throttle. I cant wait to see what comes next for me now that I am back skating and I love writing for you lovely souls. The video below is a video representation of what I went through hope you enjoy it.
